Ember Dock Breaker is the one we play when the evening needs a bit of crackle. A paddle slides along the bottom of the stage and a glowing ember waits on top of it. Launch, and the ember bounces off walls and bricks, trailing light behind it. Clear every brick and the level is done. Let the ember drop past the paddle three times and the level ends.

There are twelve handcrafted levels, from First Ember to Last Light, and they rise in a steady staircase. Some bricks carry the copper lantern crest; they take two hits and glow when struck. Others are set by design to release a helper as they break: a wider paddle for a few seconds, a twin ember, or a slower pace. Nothing about which brick gives what is left to chance.

How to play Ember Dock Breaker

  1. Pick a level from the board; the first one is open and the rest unlock as you clear them.
  2. Move the paddle under the ember, then tap, click or press Space to launch it upwards.
  3. Catch the ember on different parts of the paddle: the edges send it out at a sharper angle.
  4. Hit copper lantern bricks twice, and catch falling helpers for a wider paddle, a twin ember or a slower pace.
  5. Clear every brick to finish the level; the stars you earn depend on how many lives you have left.

Getting better at Ember Dock Breaker

  • Aim with the paddle edges. A hit near the end sends the ember sideways to reach awkward corners.
  • Clear a gap to the top early; an ember bouncing along the ceiling does a lot of work for free.
  • Learn where helper bricks sit in each level, because they are always in the same places.
  • When a twin ember appears, follow the lower one. The higher one can usually look after itself.
  • Pause with P or Escape if the doorbell goes. The game also pauses itself if you switch tabs.

Twelve levels that climb like a staircase

We built each level by hand on graph paper first, then on screen. First Ember and Dock Planks teach you the basics with plain rows and an obvious lantern brick or two. The middle stretch, from Lily Pads through Beaver Lodge, introduces gaps, pockets and bricks hiding behind sturdier ones. By Granite Ledges and Loon Call the layouts ask for real aiming rather than hopeful bouncing.

The layouts at Loonlightlodge are arranged differently from our other sites, mirrored and reshuffled within each difficulty band, so a familiar shape can still surprise you. The ember also speeds up gently the longer a rally goes, then resets for each new level. Clear all twelve and the board invites you back to collect three stars on every one, which is a long and satisfying project.

Why the paddle decides the angle

The heart of a good brick breaker is control, and control comes from the paddle. Where the ember lands on it decides where it flies next: dead centre sends it nearly straight up, while the edges kick it out at a steep slant. Once you feel this, you stop reacting and start placing shots, threading the ember through a gap to reach a lantern brick tucked into a corner.

Helpers support that skill rather than replacing it. The wider paddle buys a little forgiveness for twelve seconds, the slower pace gives you ten calm seconds to line up shots, and the twin ember doubles your reach. Because each one comes from a fixed brick, you can plan around them, saving a slow-pace brick for the moment a level gets busy.

Questions about Ember Dock Breaker

Three per level. Losing the ember past the paddle costs one, and the stars for a cleared level depend on how many you still have when the last brick breaks.

Yes. Clearing a level opens the next one, and your unlocked levels and stars are saved in your browser so you can come back to them later.

They need two hits instead of one and light up when first struck. They are often placed in tricky spots, so they reward careful aiming off the paddle.
